I have Finale v26 running on Mac igh Sierra 10.13.6. I wish to have Aria Player playback at 430, but that is not one of the settings in the Aria Player menu.

Suggestions?

Kontakt Player II had adjustment where you could vary the pitch up or down from 440. I am looking for something similar in Aria Player.

Thank you,

David Ross

I don’t see how to do this in the ARIA Player. You can ask MM Support by using the Submit a request link at the top of the page.

If ARIA cannot, you’ll need to use a different Instrument such as Kontakt or another VI player.

Maybe it's different on a Mac, but in Windows, at my ARIA (v1.872/877) "Settings" screen you can choose various options at "Tuning" (including 435 and 439, alas, not 430).

And there you go. Here it is on a Mac. I was trying all sorts of keyword searches but didn't try Tuning. Interesting that 441 is not one of the options since it is used in some countries. I never associated 445 with any country other than Austria though I know Horowitz insisted that any orchestra he played with tune to it.

Thank you Mike for the information. Unfortunately this is beyond my programming/computer skills. What I want to do is to playback a piano piece at 430 rather than 440 (or one of the other predefined pitch levels in Aria).

Below is what the MakeMusic people suggested:

[It is possible to manually configure the ARIA Player by editing the gui_settings.xml file, which is located in Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Garritan > ARIA Player > GUI. I searched and found this forum thread. About halfway down the comments, it is discussed what to add to the gui_settings.xml file to add a custom tuning of 430.

Manually configuring the ARIA Player to add a 430 tuning is perhaps the best solution. However, since it's out of the ordinary, I'm afraid I can't offer further details on accomplishing this.]

[David again] But again I couldn't get to the XML files to add a new setting. I could find them in my HD, but they only displayed in a text format which I could change.

Suggestions from anybody would be welcome.

Thanks,

David Ross

What's the end result? Do you need Finale to play 430 or do you need the resulting audio to be that pitch? If Finale needs to generate it, then you need to explore some of the solutions already presented.

If, however, it's just the resulting audio, there are many solutions involving converters, some of which are quite good. Though I have a few, my favorite is the ZTX engine which I have in a few apps. The one I use the most for pitch shift of final tracks is TwistedWave (Mac only). You can fine tune (no pun intended) the final result to the cent. I like it better for this than AutoTune or Melodyne Studio, both of which I also have.

I also have IRCAM TS2

Logic and many other DAWs have their own.

Holy cow, thank you so much for posting all of this!

I have noticed for a while that my electronics all play almost a half step too sharp, so they're in tune with each other but still obnoxiously off-key. I can compare them with most recordings and music videos, and middle C is almost C# on Finale and my electric keyboard both, so it's not just a Finale problem. Setting Finale on Baroque 415 makes it play in tune, or close enough. At least C sounds like C again. I wish I knew why my electronics tune everything so sharp, but at least I can work around it now.

It's so much less distracting to have the notes play correctly.

Hi Emma,

What you are describing might be a different issue altogether. If your sampling rate of your electronics is 44.1kHz but you are playing back at 48kHz, that could be the cause.

The solution may be easy but it will depend on knowing your OS, version of Finale and what is generating these tones that are not playing back correctly.  On the Mac, this was a major issue before in was fixed in Finale 25.4.
