The green line that shows up in playback freezes for about 10 seconds when I start playback, then proceeds as normal, but since it started later, it is behind what is currently being played. I'm absolutely baffled.
Windows 10,
Version 26.3.1.520
I just upgraded to 26.3.1.520, and I'm having this problem as well. Did you find a solution?
UPDATE: I used the Play button once before using the spacebar playback, and that seems to have remedied it. Spacebar playback has worked each time after that. I restarted Finale and tried this sequence again, and it worked. The green line in spacebar playback lags until I use the play button once.
Too many potential causes; not enough information to begin guessing. Adrian asked an important question but no one is answering. Otherwise…

I agree with Mike H. I have WIn 10 and 27.2, had 26.3, and I do not see the issue and I have never seen it. I do know that it does happen on some machines but that causes me to believe it is machine specific and not a Finale problem or bug. The only reason I say this is so you guys don't spend time looking and checking in the wrong places.
I know the guys that do see it, the space bar trick seems to fix it. I suggest you never use the space bar for playback and use the midi triangle play button. Perhaps that is why I never saw it on my machine? I never use the space bar.
I am experiencing this problem, too. I have had small delays in the past, but after some recent Windows updates, the problem is much worse. I have noticed performance issues across the board with a number of other applications in Windows. This leads me to the conclusion that the problem is new Windows programs that insist on running in the background, thereby stealing processor time for Finale's audio, causing it to lag behind the visual. In my case, my audio is 2-4 measures (3 seconds) behind the green line.
The spacebar trick doesn't do anything for me, but as I said, I think the problem is not in Finale itself but rather with Windows stealing unnecessary processing power from different aspects of the Finale program during playback.
