I have a Dell Inspiron running Windows 8.1

i bought a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-785 Digital Piano. Among the other bells and whistles included with it are Bluetooth capabilities. My Dell computer has no Bluetooth capabilities so in order to connect my Finale program on my PC to my Yamaha I need to find some sort of Bluetooth adapter for my PC so it can communicate wirelessly with my Yamaha or I have to run MIDI cables between the two which would not be easy for me to do. Do you have any recommendations for a Bluetooth adapter for my PC? Thank you.

Here's one of the better ones: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-USB-BT500-Bluetooth-Backward-Compatible/dp/B08DFBNG7F

A general problem with Bluetooth vs. wired is that the latency is higher. Exactly how much, and whether that is acceptable depends on how you intend to use it and what version of Bluetooth the Yamaha has. (Version 5 is capable of being much better than older versions in that regard, but still lags compared to wired.)

I am not sure I know exactly what "latency" is. I'm guessing that it has to do with how well the midi data survives the wireless transmission. Is my guess accurate? My Yamaha digital piano is located about 20 feet away from my Dell PC.

Latency is the time delay between when you start an event and when it actually occurs. For example, you press a key on the MIDI keyboard, and it takes a bit of time before it makes a sound or note entry in Finale (or DAW, or whatever.)

In a wired system, these delays can be as low as 3-10ms, which is generally not noticeable. With Bluetooth 4 and earlier,  though, 300-500ms isn't unusual. For audio playback only, that isn't a major problem, but if you are trying to play along to a click source, you could be an entire beat behind at m.m. 120.

With Bluetooth 5, if everything is just right*,  the latency can be as low as 34-40ms. That's a lot better (like a guitar delay pedal dialed to near minimum) but it can still be an issue.

* I'll skip the details - you can search for Bluetooth 5 and aptX LL if you are interested.
