Has anyone attempted to load their legacy Document Preferences Library into the new SMuFL-mapped Engraved Style Document style? Because loading the Document Preferences library exported from Finale 26 seems to convert the Finale 27 file to the non-SMuFL character map. Selecting a SMuFL font as your Default Music Font in Finale 26 before saving the library does not solve this problem.

In other words — if I want to import my old Document Preferences into a new Finale file that uses the SMuFL character map — is there a way to do that? Or is there a way to force Finale to use the SMuFL character map instead of the legacy map? Or do I have to laboriously recreate all of my document prefs setting by setting?

The difficulty is that your Document Options include character assignments for 'old' Maestro. So loading your library will force all your symbols to use the legacy character slots.

So there is no way to do this?

The current work-around to transfer legacy documents to SMuFL in v27 is to export the file via XML and import it into a new v27 file set up for SMuFL.

I’m not trying to import music notation. This is a blank document. I’m trying to import the Document Preferences. MusicXML is not a solution for this.

Oddly enough, MusicXML export/import does retain line width settings, for example.

It might be possible with selective use of the checkboxes for the scope of the Library file when you save it:

But really, this is something that MM need to answer / explain.

This is what I’m doing. I’m selecting only Document Options.

Could you do the XML import and conversion, and then delete notes and rests to create a new blank document?

Again, MusicXML does not bring over the majority of the Document Options (or other Library items) that I want to bring over.

SOLVED. Here is the solution: use Robert Patterson’s Settings Scrapbook plugin.

In Finale 27, open the Finale 26 Document Style you want to import. Also open the Finale 27 Finale Maestro (SMuFL) Document Style and Save As a copy. Go to Settings Scrapbook. Choose Items in Menu from the drop-down menu, choose Select All, and then unselect the following:

Bookmarks
Clef Designs
Default Fonts (except Music)
Enigma Font Definitions
File Info
Music Characters

Navigate to your copy of the Finale Maestro SMuFL Document Style, and then choose Paste All in Settings Scrapbook.

That's a commercial PI, though, which not everyone has?

It may be that MM will add this functionality, along with others, in point updates, as with 26. Trouble is, MM does have a reputation of implementing "some", and promising the remainder, which never quite transpires.

Then they’ll have to get it and take advantage of the 30-day trial. For now, this is the only way.
