Sorry to bug, but I've searched high and low and can't seem to find a solution.

I am on Finale 27.3 on MacBook Air with Ventura 13.4.

I installed and then uninstalled Microsoft Teams (damn pandemic), and I have gone through the web following instructions to remove all trace of the Teams, and even still, in my Finale Device Setup, it's defaulting to Microsoft Teams Audio instead of my computer speakers or my bluetooth headset.

Can one of you tell me where Finale is looking for devices and how I go about deleting any reference to Microsoft Teams Audio?

Thank you in advance. I know we're all busy and I feel dumb this has me stumped.

You may have to uninstall Finale completely from your computer and a clean reinstall. Being MS it could be something it is looking for on the cloud.

We have a couple top Mac guys here perhaps they will see your post but the clean install shoud fix it.

Two different issues:

I have no idea why it would select Teams but let's start with Device setup. Does your Mac have a Microphone? If so, you must enable Microphone Access. How are you accessing Device Setup? Tell us exactly. Hint: if you are not doing it from within Finale, you're doing it wrong. Accessing it from System Settings will not affect Finale playback.

In addition to the above, let us know exactly what Mac you have—it can make a difference.

The presence or absence of Teams has nothing to do with this issue but I do know how to make it go away completely. Let's get Finale working first.

I wasn't at my Mac yesterday but here are screenshots on where to find Device Setup for a Mac. As you'll see in the third one, I have a list of output devices—my interface isn't showing because it's not on. My studio monitor controller is connected to my external headphone jack which is why that's selected.

Again, if your Mac has a microphone, Finale must be allowed access—even if you don't use it in Device Setup. This is set up in System Settings/Privacy & Security (Ventura) or System Preferences/Security & Privacy (older MacOS). Here's a screenshot for Ventura.

This will get you working, Teams or no.

Thanks @Mike:

  • I access it by MIDI/Audio -> Device Setup -> Audio Setup
  • Yes, Finale has permission in the Apple setup to access the microphone
  • And yes, thank you, I had been through all the steps you describe and that gets me working.

The bigger issue is the annoyance of it defaulting to Microsoft Teams Audio when I've removed everything I can find on this computer. A Macbook Air M2 2022 edition.

Finale is obviously finding a driver to run the audio through even though the program no longer exists. I was hoping to find the file it is recognizing as part of MS Teams and nuke it.

I'm hoping not to need to reinstall as @Ernest suggests until the next update, but maybe I will try it next.

Good.

Now let's get rid of Microsoft Teams.

I assume that you have removed it from your Applications, some builds of Office install it in a Microsoft Office folder. It's not unusual for  users to have two copies without knowing it. You can run Finder/Find to locate all copies of the app (Teams exists in many other apps on a Mac, make sure you are only removing the Microsoft product). Clicking on any line reveals its location at the bottom of the Find window. You do not need to go to that location, just right-click and send them to Trash. If you find a Teams folder or other support files in Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office, move those to Trash, also. Empty Trash, reboot, and see if it is now gone from System Settings /Sound/Output — if gone from there, it will be gone from Finale, too. If so, declare victory.

The above will not remove every trace including Preference files but that's not necessary. If, however, it's still in Sound, you will need a better tool. Get Find Any File

https://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

It's shareware with a free evaluation and everything that Finder/Find should be but isn't. This time, search for Teams and hold the Option key to include the root. You'll find preferences, any other support files etc. When I did that a few minutes ago, I found these. They do no harm but there are no hidden or other Teams folders on my system. Deleting them is the same—highlight, send to Trash and empty it.

I highly recommend Find Any File but I suggest that you purchase it from the App Store. This way, you will be notified automatically when updates are available instead of checking Templemann's web site.

Same problem. Did all these steps. Still wind up with output audio defaulting to MS Teams. Had a screenshot, but won't let me attach it (error message: "You can only upload images (jpeg, gif, or png). Image uploads are limited to 2 MB." I was attempting to upload a JPEG of 8 KB.)

I also have to quit Finale and restart if I unplug my headphones (!). Frustrating!

I almost invariably have to clear the recent browser history in order to post here.

I don't have that problem on my Mac but there are a number of other issues that affect posting here.

On my Mac, I always have to double-space between paragraphs to get single-spacing after I submit.

Over iPadOS/iOS I have to post, then edit before I can space correctly, include quotes etc, It doesn't matter how far apart I space paragraphs, when I submit, spacing disappears till I edit.
