Finale 27
Windows 10

For years, I have been saving my files directly on Google Drive without any issues. However, a couple of days ago, I received an error message while trying to save my Finale document: Finale was unable to save your document "G:\MyDrive\piano.musx". I contacted the Finale Help Center for assistance, and they informed me that Finale files cannot be saved directly on Google Drive. This was surprising to me since I have been saving them directly on Google Drive for years without any problems.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Giancarlo

Can you save to the desktop, and then upload to Drive?

Yes, I can save them to the desktop, but since I am usually dealing with many different files and working on different computers (home and school) I'd rather avoid that passage with the risk of getting them confused.

When something used to work but now doesn't the question is always, What changed? With Windows 10 and 11 updates, the question often becomes, Really—again?

First thing I would try is a reboot. If that doesn't do it, you may need to re-map the drive. All sorts of things can corrupt the path. It's also possible that you had a hiccup with your internet connection.

Dear Mike, thank you for your reply.

I have two computers (one at home and one at school) The one at home has Windows 10, and the one at school has Windows 11. I rebooted both of them and even re-installed Finale on the one at home. The problem started on both of them at the same time.

Wow bummer, that's how I've been sending my stems to everybody for my recording projects, and posting music lessons for my grand kids. Why on earth would they want to end something so beneficial to so many people.

Is anyone else having a similar problem?

Who says that "they" ended anything. Cloud storage of Finale files has never been supported. In any case, Finale might not be the problem. I don't share files over GoogleDrive because it's a PIA compared to Dropbox which works great for me.

The problem started on both of them at the same time.

Hi, Giancarlo, that's suspicious and indicates that the issue may be GoogleDrive, not Finale. Google makes changes all the time. If you have a Dropbox account, try sharing your files through that to see if it works. If not, a free Dropbox account is 200MB and allows you to connect up to three devices. You can still share files on it with multiple users, however.

Dear Mike,
I followed your suggestion and opened a free Dropbox account. I can save Finale Files directly on Dropbox just fine. It is worth noticing that I can save any file from any program on Google Drive, except for Finale files. Again, I did not have this problem until a few days ago.

Best,
Giancarlo

Thanks for following up. Did you remap the drive so that Finale can see it? When something changes two commuters ant the same time and there were no Finale updates to be run, that leaves three possibilities: Windows, Google or something else. That Dropbox works points to this not being Finale.

Back in my Windows Support days, walking users through drive remapping was a daily task. Back then as now, Windows updates were a frequent cause of the confusion. Also run the Chrome updater in the Tools menu — they mess up, too.

Dear Mike,
the Finale Help Center suggested changing the preferences on Google Drive from "Strem Files" to Mirror Files" and the problem was solved.

Thank you for the time you took to answer my questions.
