I also have experienced issues with Finale printing to pdf this morning.  Everything worked great before I updated Finale yesterday, but today  (after restarting the computer, etc.) it's having issues with fonts, basically.  I usually useAcrobat for pdf printing, but the Microsoft pdf printer wasn't working either.  Support ticket has been requested, but...you're not alone out there!

Can you roll back a Finale update?

I don't think so. Did a system restore to a point before the update installation, which worked, more or less (all of a sudden I had no plug-ins .... beats me)

A system restore hmm...that's one way to do it, I suppose!  For now I'm just using my MacBook (which has a v27 that is not updated) to print the pdfs as a workaround.  I don't know if I have a restore point...but I'll check-thanks!

It's takes a few seconds to roll back on a Mac with Time Machine enabled but as long as you have a good backup, restoring to Windows is not hard.

My PC did indeed create a restore point right before the Finale update installed...restored and now it is working again.

Thanks for contacting MakeMusic Customer Support. With the recent release of Finale Version 27.4, we have improved a long-standing issue in which exporting as  PDF resulted in multiple save prompts when printing multiple parts. This behavior has now been fixed with the use of Microsoft Print to PDF.

Unfortunately, this affects users like yourself that utilize third-party PDF programs (i.e. CutePDF) in that these programs no longer work when printing from Finale. Please know that this is an unintended byproduct of the maintenance update and that our team is actively working on a solution.

Currently, the only workaround is to utilize the built-in Microsoft Print to PDF feature by following these instructions:

  1. Open the file in Finale.
  2. Choose FilePrint. The Print dialog box appears.
  3. Click Setup. The Print Setup dialog box is displayed.
  4. From the Printer Name drop-down menu, choose Microsoft Print to PDF

Since we are attempting to gather as much information possible regarding this issue, would you be able to elaborate on your reasoning on using other PDF programs? Is this simply a personal preference or do you have a specific reason? This helps us understand the urgency of the matter!

All best,

Edison

MUST fix for Adobe Acrobat DC or PRO. Don’t this will be the only program that will not print to Adobe Acrobat

Edison S. Any sane person would stay away from Microsoft Print to PDF. It's basically useless for this type of application. Without support for Acrobat Print to PDF, we just have to go back to the previous version. I'm really surprised that you don't know anything about this. It doesn't make sense.

Here's something from another thread (might be helpful, or not ...) -

I found the 27.3 installer on my notebook. I uninstalled Finale 27 using Windows Settings Apps. Then re-installed with the 27.3 file. Everything is back to normal. It restored my screen position at startup, palette layout, Lua scripts, JW Change sequences, TGTools remaps, and FinaleScripts.

I also still had the 27.3 installer and did the same procedure. No problems, now I am back in 27.3 as it was.

Hi Edison or Michael,

When I had this problem, I'd triyed what you suggested, but it doesn't work either. Can you please help with another working solution?

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, we have multiple threads on this issue. I posted this link in another.

Your problem might not be Finale. This is one of many that discusses problems using the Microsoft Print to PDF driver in Win 10/11. See if it helps.

Microsoft Print to PDF does not have the option for Arch A size paper (9 x 13 concert). Any suggestions?
