Hello,

As I understand it currently stands, one is able to 'hide' notes by rendering them 'invisible', but if one pitch is 'hidden', the entire chord is. Am I correct? Or, is there a way to 'hide' single pitches of a chord?

If not, may I make it as a suggestion for future development? How easy/likely is it to achieve this?

edit - I also wanted to add, it would come in neatly for natural string harmonics: if the harmonic is not artificial/false, the bottom note stop being firmly pressed does not need to be notated, since that bottom note would be an open string. This is one situation where that bottom note needs to be hidden, so that only the harmonic stopped note would show; while the hidden note and the displayed note can still carry out the operation of its intended harm. pitch.

Thanks greatly, as always.

Cheers,

Acerylio

By your word ‘hide’ you are talking about layout, not playback - right?

You can clear a note from a chord without deleting the entire chord.

Do you need the hidden note in Playback?

You can replace the notehead with another font character (like e. g. an invisible space character).

Or you can change the notehead’s font style to Hidden.

Hey, Peter,

Yes, the hidden note is still needed for playback.

So, this is the result of the solution which replaces notehead with an invisible space character.

(Displaying the c3 bottom pitch is unnecessary, and probably disruptive to the Violist reading this line, since that c-pitch is open-string. Both notes are needed in order to execute the intended natural harmonic in playback; the bottom note simply shouldn't be visible.)

Ledger lines and beam extension is still wrongly displayed.

How would I change the notehead's font style? Would this delete the excess beaming as displayed above? ^^

Ace Chen,

Is this conventional viola notation? Will the player know what it means?

Could you post a picture of what you want? Even hand drawn is fine.

… Ledger lines and beam extension is still wrongly displayed …

1) In the Plug-ins menu there is a plug-in for hiding ledger lines:

Plug-ins menu > Note, Beam, and Rest Editing > Ledger Lines (Hide)

2) I do not see any beams in your attached screen shot.

By your word ‘beams’, do you mean ‘stems’ ?

To avoid the long stem you could enter the lower note in Layer 2 (or use the Speedy Entry Tool feature Voice 1 / Voice 2; and put the lower note in Voice 2).

To hide the stem on the lower note, replace the stem by an empty shape.

… How would I change the notehead's font style? …

You can change the notehead’s font style from the dialog box Notehead Settings:

Special Tools Tool > sub-tool Notehead Position Tool.

Handles appear on the noteheads.

To get to the dialog box Notehead Settings,

either

- context-click the handle; in the context menu, choose Edit…

or

- drag-select the handle, and hit the Return key,

or

- double-click the handle.

To change the font, de-select

Use Default Notehead Font.

Then, click the button Set Font…

Changing the notehead’s font style will not affect the stem.
