Hi,

Finale 2014.5 was working fine for a few months, but it just stopped opening on my computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it does the same thing: freezes on the opening. There is no error message, it just stays open and doesn't do anything more.

Anyone have any suggestions of how to fix it?

Hi Grace!

Still getting used to our new system! I see your full title now stating you are on Windows 10. Why don't we go ahead and try these steps for your situation...

1. Close Finale 2014.5.

2. Hold down your Windows key and press the letter R to open the Run dialog box.
3. Type "%appdata%" (without quotation marks) and click OK.
4. Navigate to MakeMusic\Finale 2014.5.
5. In your Finale 2014.5 folder, find and open the file named FINMIDI.ini. It should open in a text editor such as NotePad.
6. Near bottom of the file until you see a section that looks like this:

[AUDIOAPIPREFS]
EngineLoaded=1
ASIOEnabled=1
DirectSoundEnabled=1
WASAPIEnabled=1

7. Change the ASIOEnabled value from 1 to 0, so that line should now read "ASIOEnabled=0".

8. Change the WASAPIEnabled value from 1 to 0, so that line should now read "WASAPIEnabled=0"
9. Save and close the file.
10. Relaunch Finale to see if the issue has been resolved.

I have the same issue.  Tried the fix but it didn't work.  Are there other possible solutions, please?

Thanks for posting, Kathleen.

There certainly could be some other factors at play in your situation. The conflict could also be caused by a conflict with a printing device, or a piece of audio hardware itself, rather than a specific API as addressed above.

I would recommend going through the steps in this article to see if you are running into any printer or audio hardware conflicts.

Other than that, if you are using a current version of our notation product (2014, 2014.5, v25), you can use the Submit a request link above to request additional support from our Customer Success agents who can look at the issue in more detail.

Hope this helps!

Just had to dig through a number of web pages to find the same problem I was having on Finale 25 for windows 10. Just wanted to let everybody know that the solution provided be Lawson still works in the latest version if your computer starts to boot Finale 25 for windows 10 and then stops with no error message you should try the above method.

Hi Grace,

Thanks for writing in!

Sounds like something we can get fixed for you. But first, what operating system (Windows or Mac) and what version of that operating system are you using?
