My desktop running windows 8.1 and I use Finale 14.5. I want a laptop with Windows 10. Does 14.5 run on windows 10 as well as 8.1? Will I lose anything from the files I am currently working on and can I switch back and forth between my lapton (windows 10) and desktop (Windows 8.1)

Thanks,

Dear Mr. Forte (by the way, what a great name for a composer :) )--

I have been using Finale 2014.5 and switching between a Windows 10 laptop and a Win 8.1 desktop, with the files saved to Google Drive. In my experience, the files open the same on both machines and platforms; though your mileage may vary, I doubt there will be any significant difference. For what it's worth, I have been doing a project involving orchestra, vocal lines, and lyrics, and what I do on one machine opens up as I left it when I go to the other machine. Hope this helps to inform your decision.

By the way (in case it matters), the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 14 that came with Win 8 and was upgraded by me to Win 10 a couple of months ago. Happy composing!

Dear Mr. Hubeart, Thank you SO MUCH for your answer. I really appreciate it. Glad you mentioned the laptop you use. One other brief question. Instead of going thru Google drive (I am a 63 year old dinasaur!!!!!), can I just as easily copy the file to a thumb drive from one device to the other, save the work back onto the thumb drive and toss back between the two computers? Your present project sounds very interesting. Happy composing to you too!!!!! ARF aldoforte.com

Dear Mr. Forte: Certainly! It should not matter whether you use a thumb drive or a "cloud" solution like Google Drive; that is just a place to retrieve the files from. So whether you move them via thumb drive or via cloud would be immaterial.

Best, TH.
