Hi

I'm using Midi playback so I can load my Emu Proteus 2 orchestra sf2 file as the playback sound set.
I also like using the Midi playback option sense I can make an mp3 file without having to use Audacity
or Reaper or some converter. But when I go to the mixer section to add some reverb I don't hear it at
all but do with smartsynth from Finale. So is the reverb for Midi playback only program to work with
smartsynth?

Thank you
Marcus

Hi Marcus

How are you using your Emu Proteus 2 orchestra sf2 file as a soundfont? (Also what platform are you on? Windows or Mac? and what version of Finale are you running?)

Are you using an external player and a virtual midi cable, or are you telling Finale to use the sf2 file directly.

If you're not hearing the reverb then I believe that you're using an external player.

On my system, which is Windows, I can tell Finale to use a different soundfont for smartsynth.

Go to MIDI/Audio->Device Setup->MIDI Setup...

Under MIDI Out, select Smartmusic SoftSynth 1

Click on SoftSynth Settings... and under "Current Sound Font" click "Select..." and navigate to where you have located the Proteus 2 sf2 file.

Once that is set, then the reverb works (at least it does so on my system, running Finale 25)

If you have an older version of Finale, the exact setup procedure might be slightly different, but essentially the same

Go to Midi setup and change which sf2 file the softsynth uses, and direct finale to use smartmusic softsynth for playback.

Cheers...

Sorry I forgot but my OS is Windows 10 and Finale 2014.5
I'm not using any external player or virtual cable. I'm
telling Finale 2014.5 to use my Emu Proteus 2 orchestra
sf2 file like you described below :)

If I switch back to Finale Smartsynth I can clearly hear
the reverb.

Thank you

Hi Marcus

Once you selet the reverb type, have you adjusted the reverb level? Silly question I know, but...

The reason I ask is that on my system the default is for the reverb level to be 0. I need to adjust the reverb level to actually hear the effect.

I've tried this with Finale 25 and Finale 2011 and they both work using a soundfont other than the default supplied, and playing back via MIDI.

Cheers...

Hi

Haha yes I have it turned to max. It sounds like I can hear some reverb every now then
but not to clear with the Emu Proteus 2 orchestra sf2 file. Well that good it works with
Finale 2011 and 25 so it should work with mine.

If I playback using VST smartsynth "playing back Emu Proteus 2 orchestra sf2 file"
and add the Garritan ambiance the effect is very clear.
