The above path (shown in this post's Title field) is copied from the User Manual (under Finale 2014d's Help menu). It contains the instruction

"EDIT > Update Layout". But there is no UPDATE LAYOUT under the Edit menu. I did find an Update layout under a pallette, but it did nothing. What I was hoping to do was to get the new system (caused by the break procedure, which did work) to continue on a new line. All it does now is show just a single expanded measure on the new line.

Hi

 

Update layout is in the Utilities menu (unless it's moved in Finale 25??)

Alternatively you can press <ctrl>U (win) or <cmd>U (mac)

 

If you're in page view, look at the system under the new one created. If that has a lock symbol next to it ,then unlock both it and the new one you created (measure tool, highlight a measure and Utilities->Unlock Systems) then update layout again.
