I recently upgraded from Finale 11.0 to 14.5, and at the same time my computer was upgraded to Windows 10.  There seems to be some sort of conflict now, as programs that play audio files, such as itunes or windows media player do not work when Finale is open.  And Finale itself will not work when NCH software such as stream rip is running.  These programs worked seamlessly before alongside of Finale.  I use them often to transcribe solos for high school jazz band musicians.  Anybody have any ideas?

Hi Hugh,

It's possible that your audio device is set to allow applications to take exclusive control of it.  Please try the following:

  1. Quit Finale and exit any other open programs
  2. Right-click your Windows speaker icon (at the bottom-right of your screen)
  3. Select Playback Devices
  4. Select your Default Device
  5. Click Properties
  6. Choose Advanced
  7. Deselect "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"
  8. Click Apply > OK > OK
  9. Launch Finale 2014.5 and test to see if the issue is resolved

Does the issue persist after following these steps?
