I've been thinking of upgrading my sound/instrument library by investing in sound libraries such as EW (Hollywood Orchestra) and was wondering if anyone had any experience using these library of sounds within Finale?  I've been using the Garritan sounds for many years (well before it was a part of the Make Music family) and like them, but wanted to take the MIDI performances to a new level.  I write for "live" performing groups but still want a better software version of the piece for my clients.  I've been researching the EW libraries and didn't see anything that said it would work within Finale but didn't see anything that said it wouldn't...since it's a fairly hefty price tag for the EW library I thought I'd ask other folks if they've had any experience with using the EW libraries in Finale.  Are the EW sounds fairly easy to use like the Garritan sounds?   Any issues I need to know before purchasing?

just to check - double check - the keyswitches for example pizz, arco, etc, I have to create these all via the text above the notes, rather than using the aritculations images as provided by Finale?

You can make it work with the articulations, but the Finale support people told me that it works more reliably by using the text expressions instead

Also - in my settings there was no option to set the 'Action 3: Dynamic CC#!! Only: 0

I had to go with CC#1: 0

darn . so, I have created all the KS for V1 though to CBS and for example with the Violas, the KS are not working properly.

Do I need to start each KS off at 24? or can I start from a 0 - I ask as i noticed in the garritan they start from 0

Righty - Hello again,

I fixed the KS fr V1, 2 and VAS.

seem to have issues with VCS and CBS however, VCS not recognising certain KS and CBS recognising none at all.

could this be to do with numbering differently ? the use of numbers, 24, 25, 26, and so on?

I've been working with this now, too.  what I've been doing to set mine up is call the staff name by the EW instrument voice name.  For instance, 18V KS.  Then in the human playback settings have it filter on 'if staff name contains'.  However, you won't be able to do this (I think) with text expressions.

The keyswitch custom text is a great idea.  But, the problem I'm having is that HP is on until it sees that custom text and then it goes off.  So, for instance, in my test I have a measure of staccato notes followed by a whole note measure with text expression 'FX Hell'.  That plays correctly, but the subsequent notes are silent because it's remaining on that KS with notes out of range.  I'm using Windows v25.  Pretty sure I'm missing something.  Have been searching /testing for days and not getting it to work out.  Any ideas?  I also tried the midi data dump approach for the expression - is that the best route to go?   Thanks!

OK, So, many years later :) I have just today fiddled around with Finale V27. Using the Create my own preference & Create my own expression text.

Starting with the Strings, I have managed to get the KS to work for V1-VCS.

But the CBS, double basses, the KS Exp Text do not seem to be doing anything. I have triple checked that I am using the correct KS value: I.E C4 = 72 / C#4 = 73 / etc, etc. But, it just will not trigger in the Double bass part when I add the creative text to trigger these KS's.

This is frustrating to say the least.
