Windows 8.1 Finale 2014.5

O.K. I have input all my percussion including a staff for pitched percussion and two staves for unpitched percussion where the players switch between several instruments. I have assigned MY OWN lines/and or spaces for different percussion instruments using standard noteheads. After highlighting, say, an area where the tanbourine plays, what do I do to make the playback for that section sound like a tambourine. I input using speedy with midi and the percussion clef staves, for purpose of input, are "treble clef" midi input pitches

Hi Aldo

Percussion layout and playback require the use of percussion maps. Typically, you would use the built in percussion maps that come with Finale. As you have decided to use your own layout, you will need to create percussion maps to fit the work you have done so far.

I have recently given a step by step in creating a custom percussion map and percussion layout which you might be able to adapt to your purposes. http://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=5&m=485431

It is *not* a solution which will immediately useable in your case. You will need to study what I've outlined, then build something similar to suit your own needs. That particular example creates multiple instances of the scame note type to be displayed on different ledger lines.

You will probable also need to consult the manual sections on percussion, percussion maps and percussion layouts.

Given more information, or a copy of your score, I could come up with a step by step for you as well, but I need to know specifics such as the sound libraries you use, and the staff lines that the notes will appear on.

Cheers...

Darrin,

Is using the "Studio" view useful in this?

Hi Aldo

I've not really ever made much use of studio view. I find it too cumbersome. All of the settings available in studio view I manage in score manager/instrument list (volume, pan must solo etc). When it comes time to do some realtime mixing etc I actually use a DAW (Reaper). All music entry that I ever do is with Simple entry. (I don't have a keyboard that works with my new system)

So I'm afraid that I'm not much help there, but my insinct is that unless you're using the tempo tap feature, then studio view is not really much of an advantage when playing with percussion.

Cheers...
