I sometimes write music for friends' short films. All I really needed for this (because I don't do professionally) was Finale. I'd load the movie in the movie window and, basic though it was, it worked -- synced right to the score I was writing.

I don't own a DAW. I've now tried a couple of free editions of pro ones that support both ReWire and a movie window, and haven't for the life of me gotten Finale 25 to respond to the play command, even when the DAW is successfully adding Finale as a ReWire track and Finale is successfully opening in ReWire slave mode.

I don't really want to have to buy another professional program (I guess specifically one of the DAWs listed in the manual entry on ReWire...) just to sync movies to scores, nor run two editions of Finale at once :/ Please consider reintroducing a movie window!

Hi Luke:
I'd recommend Reaper for a free DAW. We do not plan to bring back the Movie Window at this time

Thank you. I did eventually get Reaper to play with Finale through ReWire, so although it's a little less convenient, it's manageable.
