Hey all - it would be enormously useful to allow for sidescrolling a la Excel or the Adobe products - the command is usually Shift + Scroll Wheel. Since most score editing, especially in scroll mode, involves left-to-right motion and not up-and-down, this feature would make navigation much more convenient. I absolutely love your product and have logged thousands and thousands of hours on it, this simple feature would improve my experience enormously.

Thanks!

Hi All:

We did implement Horizontal scrolling with the trackpad on Windows with Finale v25.2. Mac has had this support for some time. We do have an open ticket for moving 1 measure at a time (FIN-4259). I am also able to Side-scroll (Shift + Scroll wheel) in Finale v25.2

We will continue to work on improving navigation of the score for both Mac and Win.

Yes! I have asked on the phone for a feature like this for several years. This is the first time I have seen this voting system.

In Scroll View, it would be helpful, (actually I think it is necessary) to be able to move one measure to the right or left without moving my eyes from the page. So, Shift + scroll wheel like Tom suggests would work.

Or, what about the left and right arrow keys? They don't do anything in scroll view anyway. Then I can keep my eyes on the score while pressing the arrow keys to move the score left and right as I compare sections. Even an arrow key + control, command, shift or Alt would be fine if that is necessary technically.

Ctrl + Page Up/Down is great for the whole page.

The problem I have is this: I am looking at large orchestral score but I need to see one bar to the left. I have to take my eyes and hands off everything to find the mouse, find the tiny arrow button on screen, click tiny arrow, then find my place in the music which has now moved. Then to go right I have to repeat the whole process to use the tiny right arrow button. This is uses a disgraceful amount of unnecessary Therbligs (if anyone knows that term).

I really want to keep my eyes on the page while moving to keep my concentration on the music; not have it continually broken.

I have Tom's same experience: "I absolutely love your product and have logged thousands and thousands of hours on it, this simple feature would improve my experience enormously."

Indeed, Finale is still lacking this scrolling feature. In the meantime, look here for a solution: http://forum.makemusic.com/default.aspx?f=5&p=2&m=387430 . Install Autohotkey and install Charles Lawrence's script which can be found in this thread. Then you can scroll left/right with the ALT key and the arrow keys.

I use a mouse with a "tilt" button (Roccat Tyon) on the top which I set to sending those ALT-right arrow and ALT-left arrow commands. Using that and the mouse's scroll wheel, I can navigate easily in a score without hitting any keys.

Nevertheless, it's still a valid feature request that Finale should come with such a basic functionality.
