Hi, I have Finale 2011 and want to take advantage of the 2014 upgrade offer on Cyber Monday.  Can anyone tell me what exactly is the benefit to additionally buying Finale Media Kit v25?  Is it worth the extra $25?  I can't find anything anywhere about the specifics for the Media Kit...not even on Finale's own website!

Hi all:

The media kit is everything that is available from the online page, and is offered especially for folks that do not have regular internet access, and those that prefer a hard copy.

We moved to a USB thumb drive with Finale v25 for ease of use. Bonus points for those that remember when Finale fit on 1 small floppy drive. The second floppy for was documentation and the 3rd has "extras".

I would like the SAME answer and instead of complaining that the person requesting help asked the question in the wrong area, why don't you try to answer the question! Besides, I would think that it should be a "Feature" request as well!

What DOES the Media Kit do for me?

I second Adrian's advice and beg you, Cynthia and Michael, to discuss these topics in the General Discussion section.

>  instead of complaining that the person requesting help asked the question in the wrong area, why don't you try to answer the question!

No one's complaining, but please respect the following:

  • there are house rules for this forum which state that it's for feature discussions
  • the people who could answer your questions probably don't read and write here anyway, because they wouldn't expect such a question here
  • you'll get much more answers if you post your questions in the right place
  • non-feature-request discussions clutter up the relevant topics and make them harder to find

> Besides, I would think that it should be a "Feature" request as well!

Okay, so what's your specific request? Do you suggest more clear and easy-to-find information on the Media Kit on the MM website?

Dear Finale, I am a current and potential upgrade customer who was looking for an answer about the Media kit. When you look to upgrade, the Finale checkout provides you an option to purchase the media kit but in no way provides a description or link to a description. I appreciate you asking that we respect the house rules but remember the golden rule, it's your customers who should be valued and respected. The fact of the matter is that when I typed Media Kit into the Finale Search Bar, it was this very link it led me to, so in a way, it's Finale that is telling me to look at this location. To the folks that design your website, I suggest that they make it easier for customers to find the appropriate answer to this question. To the person who asked the original question, thank you, it was your effort and the helpful response that followed, that provided me access to the answer i was looking for, inappropriate location or not.

Hi Joe:

The media kit is simply a hard copy of Finale (on a memory stick).

Also, the search field at Finalemusic.com will return all available hits of the term across our sites. So yes, typing in "media kit" will return a hit of this thread as well as the store.makemusic link, and other zendesk cases. We've configured our resources to do this so the community can help each other.

I have the same question.  What is the media kit? I think it is the program on a thumb drive.  Am I correct?  And yes, searching for "medial kit" returns me here.

Hi John:

Correct, the media kit is Finale on a thumb drive.

You can "download" Finale 25 on as many machines as you wish; but you can only "authorize" it on two computers at the same time.

If finale is good for 2 computers, and I get new devices, can i discontinue it from one old computer and download it onto my new device?   Also, how often are upgrades?  I see that I'd be purchasing a 2014 version --is anything more current coming out soon?  Are upgrades free? If not, how much would they cost?  thanks

1) You can have Finale installed (authorized) on two computers at the same time.

2) Via MakeMusic’s web site you can move an authorization to a third computer.

3) The most recent Finale version is Finale v25.

But Finale v26 is on its way - read makeMusic’s blog!

4) Updates are free.

Upgrade to a newer version costs money. The upgrade price depends on, from what Finale version you are upgrading.

The Academic Finale 25 package is the same as the full-priced version, but with a special price for "academics."
