Finale version 25.1.0.182

Windows 10

I am zoomed-in very largely on the bottom part of my concert band score, working on detailed copying and engraving.

When in Page View Mode, and using shift click playback, instead of the scrolling staying where I am focused on the score, Finale shifts to the top of the score. This also occurs in normal playback mode.

How can I change this? If I cannot, I'd like to requested this as a feature change. I think it's actually a bug; Finale should try to keep the focus of playback on the part of the score that is on the screen, and not "flip" to a different part of the score.

Cheers

Hi David,

Thanks for posting!

It looks like you are running into a limitation of scrolling playback in Finale. When playing with scrolling playback, Finale will try to follow the cursor, and from the top of the page, so if you are zoomed in, it may cut off what you were looking at when the score jumps back to the top.

I can definitely see how there is room for improvement in that area. In fact, this is the type of feedback that I know our development team takes seriously when considering improvements to Finale. I will be sure to take note of the feedback!

As a workaround, you can try deselecting the Scrolling Playback option ion Finale's Playback Settings window (the Gear & Speaker icon in the Playback Controls palette launches that window).

This will remove the scrolling playback cursor, but it will give you the freedom to scroll around on your score as you wish during playback!

Hope this helps!

Hi Lawson:

Thanks for your response. It's a workaround fix; nevertheless, your suggestion does improve my workflow.

Cheers,

Dave

This was posted seven years ago and there's still no fix for it? Any hope of it ever improving?

Same here. Space-bar click to play not scrolling on Mac.

I know these post are old and Finale switched to Dorico.  However for those not updating and wishing to stay focused on a particular area of the score - hear (hmm) is one way to do it!  View > Studio View (Shift + Command + E [Mac])  Volume Faders show for each instrument (kinda nice,) and the Music Score won't jump around.  If you want to get back to Page View type Command + E.  It's verily simple to switch between the two views and probably won't distract your work flow.  Happy Composing!
