Folks,

I just got GIO a couple weeks ago for use with Sonar X1. This weekend I put some notes in the piano roll and GIO played fine. That is, until I either changed the length of the note, or moved a note. Then the GIO plugin went silent ... completely, and this behavior is easy to consistently reproduce.

I narrowed down the steps I used to try to isolate the problem.

  • Load a soft synth|ARIA player VST x_64, load any sample into a bank
  • Sound plays fine
  • Go to piano roll, enter some notes and sound plays fine,
  • Edit any of those notes and sound stops

I have not found any other plugins that exhibit this behavior. This is the only "problem" I have experienced with GIO and it has me stumped. I have tried stopping and restarting Sonar's audio engine and that doesn't work.

I confess that I am disappointed to find on the forums problems and questions posted weeks ago with no responses even from Garritan. I hope someone is able to help me as I'd like to play with some compositional ideas. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have a CC1 mod wheel controller greater than 0 otherwise all sound is muted. I add in a CC1 controller of 64 at the beginning of most Garritan sounds as that's set an initial sound level and then vary it over the course of the music to get the desired sound I want

That did it!

Thank you very much, Mr. Holmes! Obviously I didn't realize that the mod wheel was defaulting back to zero. Wow. Now I can get some of these (probably useless) musical ideas out of my head. Have a wonderful day, Frederick. I hope 2017 is your best year ever!

Sincerely,

Don

Mosy Garritan instruments us the mod wheel for midi Expression so it's not just volumne it controls but the sound quality itself. I spend lots of time entering CC1 mod wheel data into my DAW (Sonar) to get the dynamics right.

Good luck with your "useless musical ideas" as I've been composing useless folk songs and ballads since I retired many a year ago.
