I work writing and rescoring music for my church and others. Every church music publisher that I utilize, OCP (Oregon Catholic Press), GIA Publications, and WLP (World Library Publications) to name just the top three, all utilize capo chords above the actual chord in bold with parenthesis around it:

Right now I have to use a text block above each chord line and space the chords out with whitespace between them so I can keep them horizontally aligned, but if I make any adjustments to the measures or change lyrics, the spacing of the chords changes and I have to update the text boxed manually to get the capo chords realigned. Two other disadvantages are not being able to change the key signature of the piece without having to manually update the chords, and the human error factor of potentially entering the wrong chord whereas the current capo chord (in italics without parenthesis) will automatically properly transpose the chord.

I have been requesting this for years in the forums and trouble tickets, and I hope a post here will help bump the request :)

Hi all:

Duly noted. I can appreciate that this is difficult to achieve without significant risk via human error. I've documented as FIN-4343. We have to get through some higher priority work, but hopefully we can implement a house style concept to capo chords in the future.

A very good idea! I hope MM will implement this feature next time...

Thank you Michael! We have thee of us that use Finale at our church and one holdout with Sibelius just because it will do the chords correctly. Maybe we can convince her to change over when it gets implemented. :)

John thanks for this this post. I have been a Finale user for over 25 years and in 2013 had an incident number assigned to this (other requests were done via phone). I also had trouble when using the text editor then updating the score.

I suggested putting it in the Document Options/Chords section under the "Utilities" tab.
Ex:   [ ] add parenthesis to capo chords (check mark = Y)
Placing the this option in the "document" section as opposed to the chord tool tab would keep the user from having to update 4 boxes; capo at fret and use fretboard font. If the user does not want parenthesis around capo chords, they can uncheck the box in the
Document Options/Chord tab. Hope this request gets moved up and the next update will see this included...

I'm also looking for parentheses around capo chords. Thought I might've missed an option somewhere; this thread confirms I didn't miss it. And that I'm not the first to ask/look. And that the request goes back three years (at least).

So, where does it stand?  Any chance this will filter into the product in my lifetime?

Jeff,

I'd be surprised if this was added to Finale anytime soon.

I need capos w/parens too, and here's the work-around I use. Put the regular chords in as usual with the chord tool. But use the lyric tool to put in the capo chords. I use the lyric "Section" for capos, with Maestro Times set as the font. It's not perfect but it gets the job done.

Jeff, I wouldn’t expect this feature to be included in our lifetime. I’v had a ticket outstanding on this (parenthesis around capo chords [Incident: 130202-000081] since 2/2013...I also called the customer service guys at least 3 years prior to this request...They always told me that it was not difficult to add this and it might be done with the next version...that was 6 versions ago...I guess they don’t listen to us very much...rogerh
