v.27.4, Windows 10

The checkbox for "Transpose all keys proportionally" is easy to miss at the bottom of the list, and it defaults to NO.  Wouldn't it be better to default to "YES"?  It is a mess to go back to recreate a tune properly, especially if there is a succession of operations after a mistaken key-sig change.

I can see why it might be desirable for some users but I can also see why it is not set that way by Default.

  1. Using the Measure ___ Through ___ (or Through End of Piece or To Next Key Change) text boxes, specify the range of measures you want to be affected by the key signature.
  2. Specify the transposition effect. None of these choices affect sections of your document that are keyless.
    • Choose Transpose Notes to transpose any existing music to the new key. Choose either Up or Down from the dropdown menu to specify the direction in which you want to transpose the music.
    •
    • If the measure range you’ve specified contains keys whose relationships you want to preserve, select Transpose All Keys Proportionally. Subsequent key changes will be preserved, but will be affected by the same interval as the key change you’re now creating.
    •
    • Choose Hold Notes to Original Pitches to hold each note at its original absolute pitch and adjust accidentals where necessary.
    • Choose Hold Notes to Same Staff Lines (Modally) to keep each existing note on its original line or space without adjusting accidentals.
  3. Click OK (or press ENTER).

Perhaps a Preference setting that can be overridden would be a good idea.

For every Finale user who eagerly desires a feature, there's another user who wants an option to turn the feature off.

I appreciate you-all's responses.  I should have stated it a bit differently.  Let's say that the default setting is fine either way.  What I need, and presumably others would appreciate, is a warning that a tune contains a key change, even how many key changes.  The software knows when a key change is present, so there could be an unmissable red-light warning that there is one or more, and then I can choose how I want to structure the operation.

My recurring problem is that for what I do, key changes are relatively rare, my mind is on other things at the moment, so I'm not conscious of it when it is there.  I can't think of any reason to not want a warning pop up.  It should be a simple subroutine.  This has cost me wasted printing and embarrassment in jam sessions.  All that is so avoidable.

Gazing onto my crystal ball…

Never gonna happen. There is (to my observations) little or no development going on, and new features have been pretty underwhelming the last few releases. And, what Peter said. I certainly don’t need to be bothered by “helpful” warnings.

Amen to both! If it was a Preference that could be set, sure... why not? However, unless Off was the default, I would not want to see it.
