I recently started using Finale with Video Sync 6. Video Sync allows me to use Streamers and Punch overlayed on video clips and is locked to Finale via Time Code using the IAC Driver. I'm using Finale like a DAW in that sense where I'm writing in the music instead of playing it in. Picture locks to Finale time code perfectly and works every time without having to reconfigure or reboot anything. I wish there was a way that I could enter a specific time code in the play controls and/or in the measure box at the bottom of the screen and it could advance to that specific spot in the measure while it sends out code to Video Sync to lock picture at that point. I now have to fish around with measure units to get close to a time code for scoring. I can get close setting playback controls to start at Leftmost Measure in scroll view, hitting Stop twice and picture will advance to that spot, but again, its measure by measure and isn't very specific. Entering timecode can get me frame accurate.
I've been a Finale user since v7. I know it quite well and have copied many a show on Finale. Someone mentioned in one of the forums that it seems like MM is giving up on Finale. We haven't seen an update in awhile. V27 came out two years ago? Someone mentioned Dorico. I took a look at it and was amazed at its functionality. Its DAW and notation in one and its integration of video for scoring was quite impressive. Personally at this age, I don't want to learn another software and I hope they continue on with Finale and try to update these kind of things, but if it happens and Finale is finished, Dorico would probably be the replacement. It's sad, I've seen it with my DAW as well. Started with Studio Vision and then DP. DP is a shadow of its self and everyone is going to Cubase or Ableton.
