Hi

I accept everything that you say. In principle, I am prepared to try Dorico. However, I realise that adopting new software will take time and I want to plan for this at a time when I have the time to invest in learning rather than using.

Tell me how long is the "limited time": For a limited time, users of any version of Finale or PrintMusic can purchase Dorico Pro – the highest tier of the product – for just $149 (retail price $579).

thanks in anticipation of a definitive answer,

bw Ray

Finale user for more than 30 years.  I now have Finale 26, but not 27.  I can't imagine what motivates them to suddenly, without warning, make upgrading impossible.  I would guess I am not the only one who wants now to have 27.4 on hand, so as to be able to compare Finale at its zenith with Dorico at its latest.  But I will not buy the latter (for any price...) if I can't consummate my final upgrade with the only program I have used in my entire life.

It seems that Finale has made some sort of deal with Dorico with this as a provision.  Someone from either firm has to convince me why an upgrade I could have done the day before yesterday cannot be done now.  Otherwise, I will assume that we are dealing with predatory types who care about their bottom line rather than their customers' livelihood and creativity.  For shame!

Right, this is an extreme shock that should have been handled in a different way.  I would have preferred to hear, "We will be closing down all sales and authorizations of Finale by the end of 2024" or some other reasonable time period, rather than announcing the sudden death of the company with no recourse  Very, very disrespectful to all the thousands and thousands of Finale users, including many major publishing houses.

Clarifications on the initial announcement

  1.  Finale authorization will remain available indefinitely: Please note that future OS changes can still impact your ability to use Finale on new devices.
  2. Finale v27 to be included with Dorico Pro Crossgrades: We are currently working on a solution for all customers who have purchased or intend to purchase a Dorico Pro crossgrade to be able to download Finale v27. This will ensure that you can export your Finale files using MusicXML 4.0, the most robust version of MusicXML available. Thank you for your patience, we will provide more information soon.
