Maybe I'm overlooking something but is there an allround setting in Finale 25 to tell Finale how many staffs I want per page in an instrument part (excluding page breaks for page turns)? I can do this by changing staff margins and/or distances but that seems a quite laborious work around. Thanks!

There is not a dialog box where you can specify the number of systems per page, sorry!

What you can do, is specify the page formatting for parts before all the parts are generated.

This is done here:

Document menu > Page Format > Parts…

To find the settings you need, you may have to experiment a little by generating a single part, and adjust its formatting until it is as needed.

Then, enter the needed values in Page Format for Parts, and generate all parts.

Ideas:

- The layout numbers are simpler if you use small Measurement Units, like Points or EVPUs.

- When in doubt, Keep It Simple:

Set the Staff Height to 24pt (= 100 % scaling), and set the System Scaling to 100 %.

Then use only Page Scaling to get the desired Staff Height.

- Begin the experimenting on Page 2.

From page 2 and onwards all systems can have the same margins.

Page 1 is different because of the first system where you make room for the Title.

- In the window Edit System Margins you can use the info line “Required for add’l system” to calculate how to adjust the system margins.

I would really like an explanation from MakeMusic why I do not see prior comments (like Peter's here) when I initially see and comment on a thread. This is not just true of this thread but has been true of countless threads in the past weeks.

This Zendesk software seems to be getting worse, not better.

Adrian,

I've noticed the same thing.

I've also noticed these hidden comments that suddenly appear a few hours or days later.

I've submitted a request about this poor forum performance.

Hi all,

In response to your feedback, we've made some adjustments to improve everyone's experience. We had implemented some content moderation measures a few months back when we were getting hit by a deluge of spam, but it seems we overcorrected a bit, as many posts were being flagged unnecessarily, causing the delays you've all noticed. So we've made adjustments to make the moderation less aggressive, so I'd expect a much better experience going forward!

Am I missing something? I feel like this is something that can definitely be done currently. Accessed from the [Page Layout] menu.

This seems to be what you are describing. You will have to adjust the system margins (commonly, just the top and bottom systems) so that the music fits in the "frame" you want.

You are not missing anything.

And there is also the plug-in Space Systems (in the sub-menu Scoring and Arranging).

These two solutions alter the layout after the part has already been generated.

I suspect that the original poster (= Michel Havenith) was asking for an “allround” solution that automatically will generate all new parts with the desired number of systems per page.

However, both Space Systems solutions have the limitation that they do not use the option of altering the scaling (= resizing).

In Other Words:

They accept the existing scaling.

Also, they do not update the default settings in

Document menu > Page Format > Parts…

New pages/systems added later will have the default formatting.

I think that Michel Havenith wants to alter the default settings in Page Format for Parts.

Ah, ok. I see. Thanks for the clarification, Peter.

@George: thanks for pointing out this option. It is not quite what I'm looking for but can be helpful in many cases.

@Peter: you're right, I was indeed looking for the allround solution you describe (in Page Format - Parts).
