I am experiencing some behavior in Finale that I can't figure out.  It must be something I'm doing, but can't see what it is.  I am using the latest version of Finale on Windows 10.

1.   I have an issue with a Poco Ritard that doesn't end.   I have it inserted in a measure, followed by an "a Tempo" in the following measure.  The playback works OK, but the Ritard doesn't end - 10 measures later, the tempo has degraded about 25% or so.  What is the magic word or phrase I need to use to stop the ritard process?

2.  Similar problem with Diminuendo.  (Dim.)  How do I let the playback process where to end it - it just fades into nothingness.

3.  Different issue - I am trying to insert a Fermata over a note.  I click on the articulation tool, select the note I want to have the fermata installed over, then go through the dialog boxes to select the correct sign (#10) , and click on Select, and then OK.  Nothing is inserted.  I tried zooming in on the section in question, but nothing shows up.  The note that I am trying toi do this on is the second of two eight notes that are tied together (same pitch - used the note tie tool to insert the notes.  I have used this technique before, and never had it do this before.

Thanks in advance; any help is appreciated.

Re 1) and 2), try adding at the end of the ritardando / diminuendo an expression that sets the desired end tempo / end dynamic.

The expression does not have to display anything - you can use the text style Hidden, or just a spacebar character.

Try removing the tie first, then add the fermata, then add the tie again.

#2: If you are applying a cresc/dim to a piano grand staff, I have found that I sometimes (often) need to hide an additional concluding dynamic beneath the lower staff of the grand staff to keep the cresc/dim from continuing in the left hand after it stops in the right hand.

Thanks, Peter and Adrian.

With your assistance, I have solved all of my issues.   I used your solutions and have eliminated my problems on the ritard and dim.  As for the fermata, in the interim, my machine was rebooted, and now the problem has disappeared.   I had stopped and started Finale before I wrote the initial note above, without any benefit.  Oh well, my machine runs Windows, so behavior like this is to be expected, I suppose.

Thanks for your time.
