 I have created all my own tempo markings.  From Grave to Pressto.

When I use one, it works for three or four measures and then reverts to some other tempo.

I waste more time trying to fix this than doing my work. I am absolutely sick of this.

Finale has very, very poor technical support.

On the verge of dumping it for something else.

I found a fix, but I don't know how long it will last or if it causes some other problems.

Playback settings

Bottom right-hand corner, click on Playback/Record options.

Uncheck all six boxes relating to velocities, durations etc.

Save everything. The problem seems to go away.

How did you enter the original music? By hand? MIDI import? Finale file sent by a friend/colleague?

I'm thinking if you did not create it from scratch it (or any template you entered it into) may have some prior MIDI tempo data in it that needs to be stripped out (with Clear Selected Items).

 

Knowing which version of Finale you are using and which computer operating system would be of some help here.
