I am setting up for the first time with Finale. Two questions:

1. Should I import my compositions from the sequencer in the MOTIF, then work in stand-alone mode in Finale with Garritan instruments? Or is it better to use the MOTIF for my playback?

2. When I import a midi file from the MOTIF which contains a percussion track, it uses notes across the whole 88 keys on the keyboard. How can I set that track up in Finale?

Thanks

(Windows 10, Finale v25)

1. The answer is up to you, particularly if you like the results you re getting on the MOTIF. But I would caution against setting all playback to the MOTIF to avoid learning how to handle the GARRITAN instruments. Be aware that your import from the MOTIF may well come in unquantized and require significant work to produce intelligible written output.

2. Start by importing the MOTIF percussion track into MIDI channel 10. At least then you have a chance to identify each instrument in General MIDI before working to reproduce the effect with Garritan percussion.
