Finale currently doesn't support latency compensation. A one second delay when inputting notes and sounds makes it very frustrating to use both NotePerformer 3 with Finale. I've begun switching over to Sibelius because their software doesn't have a delay. Hopefully Finale can work together here so we can use other instrument sounds with Finale.

Dorico has found a way (and as you say, Sibelius) to manage this delay, so I would imagine Finale will seek to do so too as MM and NotePerformer work to become more "integratable."

Dakota,

We are aware of the latency with NotePerformer 3. This does make it a bit challenging (not to mention a bit annoying) to work with. Although I cannot provide a timeline on this, it is something that we do plan on addressing.

I've heard from several sources that this issue is already in the process of being fixed (or at least on the "to-do" list).

I've been experimenting with NotePerformer3 and really like it.  I was frustrated that the non-slurred notes almost sound staccato.  HOWEVER, I found a solution.  In the Human Playback you can add to "Sustaining: Standard" and "Action 2" (keep whatever they have for Action 1.  In Action 2 add "Controller/108/1", and the non-slurred notes will playback like normal.  To me their "default" setting makes non-slurred notes sound too short.  I could write a series of eighth-notes without any markings, then followed by the identical series of eighth-notes with staccatos, and they would sound the same - the first measure of eighth-notes without any markings sounded just like the staccato eighth notes.  Adding this "Action 2" fix, however, solved the problem!  I'm considering getting this program, because it would be so much easier to get harmonics and other special effects!

It's been a while since we've had any Finale Updates.  I was hoping there would be something that would address the delay in the performance of NotePerformer, and also the problems with glissandos.  I did a project last year with one of the beta versions of NotePerformer and it was easily the most expressive "performance" I've had from a "mockup".  I'm hoping some of the issues regarding NotePerformer will be addressed soon!

The delay in NotePerformer is as much a function of NotePerformer read-ahead as Finale. Clearly there is work to do to let Finale syncronize non-NP sounds with NP. There is word on the Dorico forum that an upgrade of NP  for Dorico is in the works, and that suggests that simultaneous improvements may be coming that work with the Finale version as well.

I'm sure Finale is interested in smoothing the Finale/NP interface; so I'm optimistic even though I do not myself use NP with Finale.
