I am trying to find a better way to do the following.....

I am working with a tune that is in 4/4 time, and has a rhythm that involves double dotted quarter notes, followed by a 16th note.

The only was I can fin d to enter this rhythm using the note entry tools is to select a quarter note, add the dot (both using the tool bar on the right), place the note using the mouse, and then going back to the tool bar, turning off the quarter note, so that only the dot function is selected, and going back to the quarter note and clicking on it, which then adds the second dot.  This all works, but having to do it many times is labor intensive to say the least.

Double clicking on the dot button, just turns it on and back off again.   Am I  missing some easier way to do this?  I checked the online tutorial and the best I could do was find a way to place the dot somewhere else.

If this is not possible, is it something that might be considered for addition in a future release?

Thanks for your assistance in advance.

Jerry

I am using Finale 25. 5 on Windows 10

It's very quick with Speedy entry, place your cursor on the pitch, press "5.." for the double dotted quarter and "3" for the 16th.

But I would suggest writing the double dotted quarter as a quarter tied to a dotted 8th. It's much easier for a musician to read. Actually, I'm just finishing up a job where the editor crossed out every double dotted quarter the composer had entered and replaced them with the tied notes.

You are certainly doing it the hardest way possible. In Simple, enter the quarter note by tapping the 5, and then the proper letter key for the pitch A-G, and tap the . (period) key, twice. Then 3 for the sixteenth, and the pitch.

All done on the QWERTY keyboard. No need for the mouse, at all.
