While the symbols for hauptstimme and nebenstimme are available in non-Finale font sets, is there any consideration to include them in Finale 26? (for convenience when interchanging with other users/clients who may not have those fonts).

Yes, it is possible to design them oneself with the shape designer but it would very convenient if they were available as standard inclusions.

I see this as a subset of a more general undertaking:

Full compatibility with SMuFL (Standard Music Font Layout).

With SMuFL fonts you can have thousands of glyphs in the same music font.

Imagine having a SMuFL font based on the glyphs from the Maestro font, and including all the special music symbols such as Hauptstimme, Nebenstimme, &c.

The Toccata font includes the Hauptstimme and Nebenstimme characters.

The Toccata and Fughetta fonts are available as shareware.

The free version of the Toccata and Fughetta fonts available in the shareware download (tocfug.sit.hqx) is a very old version that was not developed with OS X in mind. Some of the character mapping in that version does not work well in later OS X versions.

Toccata and Fughetta have been completely rebuilt since that version and the current version for sale works with all version of OS X. It is still available for sale for Mac and Windows; information can now be found at https://slipsong.com/aboutfonts.html

If you have any questions, you can contact me at blake[at]slipsong.com.
