One year ago I asked about this, and the only response was "We're looking into it." This is a tremendous annoyance when composing and editing:

When scrubbing in scroll view, all instruments play back, regardless of whether they have been muted or not. It would be nice if either the scrub function would recognize that some instruments have been muted and only play back the others that the user wants to hear. Or perhaps a staff set could be made with whatever instruments the user only want to hear and then only those instruments would play back.

When can this be implemented?

The other issue with scrub playback, is that staves that don't have any audio assignment will playback, as well. Very annoying if you ever have hidden staves for reference that you don't want to print or playback.

My workaround is to assign an empty midi channel to any staff that I don't want to hear.

Then you should vote for Russell's request.

Hear, hear!

After casting my vote for Russell's idea, I wanted to ask if MM could also look into making things like 8va observed while scrubbing.  Or is that a new post?
