Hello All,

I'm running Finale 26 (on Mac OS High Sierra), and have a quick question regarding using JW Pattern with Keyboard Maestro.
The JW Pattern dialog box opens in a slightly different location on the screen each time I access it. This prevents me from recording mouse movements to access the secondary pulldown menu and select diminuendo
I can use key commands select Dynamics/Hairpins, but can't find a way to move over and open "Select Shape" without the mouse. Is there a way to either:
1. force the JW Pattern dialog box to open in the same location relative to the left corner of the screen each time.
2. use a key command to pulldown the secondary menu in the dialog box.

Any insights will be greatly appreciated!

Lendell,

Lots of options for this. First, make sure you've got your mouse clicks set to the top left corner of the front most window. That should sort out you troubles. If it doesn't, you can program in KM to place the menu at a certain screen position. Use the "Move a Window" action and then set an exact position on your screen.

I don't think there's a way to use key commands to access the other popups. You'll have to use a mouse click, and then a key string to select the menu.

I'll give you some other pro tips for accessing the JW Plugs.

1. Make multiple copies of the same plugin for different uses. If you find yourself using the JW Pattern for lots of different actions, but you'd like a single trigger for each one, try the following. Go to you plugin folder, and find your JW Plugins folder. Make a new subfolder for each individual macro, and then make a copy of the JWPattern plugin file and put it into the new subfolder. Now the settings will hold each time you run the different macros.

2. In order to speed up your macros, use an "If Then Else" action to set up the following. If the macro has already set what you want, you'll want it to just hit "Apply" and then get out of the menu. If it hasn't been run, you'll want it to trigger the whole thing. What you can do is use a screen capture of a specific menu item that is only visible in the correct settings you want. So, you'll program the macro as follows:

If the screen contains uniquely the "screen graphic," then it should just hit apply and close. If it does not, it should run the whole macro to select the desired settings.

You can go to town with this technique and really speed up these JW menus. Hope you find this useful!

Glad to help. I wrote a guest blog on scoringnotes.com a while ago about KM. Not sure if there'd be anything helpful on there for you. It was more geared at showing the possibilities that KM can open up. Feel free to ask any more questions.
