Add the ability to include an up or down arrow on the rolled chord symbol (articulation) and make the symbol automatically attach to the top and bottom notes (or let us define them) and playback properly across staves and layers.  It is very complicated to do this currently (with hidden layers and smart shapes and such).  There are also collision problems with the default positioning.  These should also be fixed.

Agreed. It should automatically avoid notes on the other side of the stem, and absolutely should avoid accidentals.

Probably also worth mentioning that placing the arpeggiation "squiggle" appropriately will sometimes (e.g. when there are noteheads on both sides of the stem AND accidentals) require the note itself to be shifted to the right if it's the first entry after a barline.....

And while we’re talking about them, how about adding arrowed arpeggios for downward rolls. With proper playback, of course.

That was actually Eric's first request at the top of this thread....  but yeah, I'd say it's worth mentioning again. :-)

I agree with this request. Arpeggiated chord is one of the few articulations which you actually have to place manually, pretty much. I'd like to see them neatly being placed well to the side of the chord, like how other articulations are placed automatically and well placed. And I also like the idea of arpeggiated chord with arrows. At the moment, you have to design an own articulation in order to make that. Would be nice if there was such articulation (one with arrows up and one with arrows down) from the start.

FWIW, there are font characters already in the Engraver Text Fonts which contain up/down arrows with the wavy line. They don't stretch, but you choose the character which works for you.

Good point David...The entire note does absolutely need to be repositioned from the edge of the measure or the "squiggle" will be too close to the barline.  I think that is actually the whole problem...the squiggle is actually in the right place...the note needs to move to account for it being there.

Yes to all of this, please:  arrows, moving away from the barline, avoiding collisions with notes and accidentals.  Oh, and corresponding playback; I want it all!

Seven months after the last post.

Dittos to all of the above.

Odd that MakeMusic seemed to have forgotten about this symbol when it comes to music spacing.
As stated above, each and every instance has to be moved manually--sometimes the symbol, sometimes the note(s).

Agreed, and Please! Such a common and basic symbol in keyboard music (not to mention harp, and occasionally strings).

I'm sure it will be given the same priority as all other suggestions (and promises) for improvements. That is to say, none at all.

Remember when they told us that the new "non-year" paradigm would allow more timely fixes and additions? And that the PDF-only format of the User Manual would do the same? Now, as long as they can claim to be rewriting the code from the start, they have an excuse for doing nothing as promised earlier.

Sic transit gloria mundi.
