Staff Name Exceptions

I've built a master rhythm part (Guitar, Rhodes, Bass, & Drums). For the intro, I have each instrument on it's own staff, but as I get into the song, I put the bass and Rhodes on the same staff, written in rhythmic notation with chord symbols, for simplicity and to limit the number of pages needed for the part.

I put the combined Rhodes/Bass part on a separate staff from the individual Rhodes and Bass part, and just hide the combined staff during the intro. Then, after the combined Rhodes/Bass staff appears, I hide the individual Rhodes and Bass staves for the rest of the chart.

Is there a way I can display the FULL staff name for the combined staff in bar 13 (the first time it's visible in the chart) and still display the abbreviated name in the rest of the piece?

Yes, there is a way:

Use a custom staff style that uses the Full Name in the field “Abbreviated Name”.

I see that, but won't that put the Full Name on EVERY stave? I'd like to have the Full Name appear only on the first visible staff (bar 13).

My best workaround so far is to create a graphic of the full staff name and place it over the Finale-generated name on that staff.

You can place a staff style on any measure or portion of a measure.

Just beware that there is a difference between Staff Attributes and a staff style.

Staff Attributes are “global” (= for all the measures in the document).

A staff style, On The Other Hand, can be applied “locally”, thus overriding the Staff Attributes locally.

Thanks for this. I use the notation styles all the time, but was unaware other settings could also be incorporated.
