I'm trying to create a "Tacet" movement by creating a two measure multimeasure rest, then replacing the number (2) with "Tacet".  I seemingly found a way to remove the number by telling Finale not to use a number until there are three measures of rest.  This looks great!  Then I just have an expression for "Tacet".  However, whenever I update the score, the multimeasure rest reverts to showing the number.

Is there any other way of hiding the number in a multimeasure rest?

It turns out that if you uncheck Update Automatically in "Document Options/Multimeasure Rests" the numbers don't revert back to two. So, I guess it works! :-)

How are you editing the multimeasure rest? Locally (right clicking on the measure) or globabally (document options)?

When I unchecked "Update Automatically" in document options it worked.

The only problem will be if you need other MM Rests updated as you go along, they won't be. That can result in missing music buried in a MM Rest. If you have a movement that's tacet for a particular instrument, it's not necessary to show a stave with "tacet" indicated. Just use page text—
