If I want to remove a tie between notes, it seems I have to delete the leading note and then re-add it...this is somewhat a pain if the tie is within a group of notes (especially 1/8, 1/16 etc

Is there a shortcut?

In Speedy Entry, position the cursor on the first note and hit = to toggle a tie on or off.

In Simple Entry, T does the same thing.

This is very basic Finale functioning, and you should do the tutorials to learn this. If you ever temporarily forget a command, the common ones are listed in the menu for each tool, along with the keyboard keystroke.

If you have two tied notes and you want to remove the tie, all  you need to do is (in Simple Entry) to place the caret on the first note and press = or 't'.

Christopher beat me to the draw! I also second his advice that you acquaint yourself with Finale's basic functions.

T now works in either Simple or Speedy Entry.

= is still an option in Speedy.
