Hi. I need to create the TACET thing in an extracted part. However numeral time signature changes causes an issue that several multimeasure rests cannot be merged. Or can they?
Finale 25 here, win 7.

… As far as I understand, doing tacet through linked parts makes sense only if different movements are in different files …

I am afraid I do not understand.

I have done multiple movements in one Finale document, and done Tacet in linked parts.

That makes sense to me.

… Hiding time signatures does just hide them, but the division remains …

After you have applied the staff style, you must create multimeasure rests again.

Finale does not automatically do that for you.

(The multimeasure rest document option “Update Automatically” only works in the opposite direction = break an existing multimeasure rest, to update for added stuff)

An image for clarification. Each multirest is a time change.

I wonder why you extract the part?

You can not use the linked part (instead of the extracted part)?

Anyway, a custom Staff Style can solve the problem.

Create a staff style that hides time signatures.

Apply your new staff style where needed (= in the TACET region).

What about the Double Barlines?

As far as I understand, doing tacet through linked parts makes sense only if different movements are in different files. In this case the whole piece is in one file. Shoudn't use the "extracted" word, by the way.

But the point of my question is: how do I merge those multimeasure rests anyway? No matter if it has anything to do with the tacet or not. Double barlines have nothing to do here, it's all about time changes. Hiding time signatures does just hide them, but the division remains.

I still need to figure out those bars – there's a time change in each bar with hidden time change). Thank you!

Oskar Czechowicz,

Unfortunately I am unable to duplicate your problem.

For me, measures with dashed barlines do not break/prevent multimeasure rests.

Something else must be preventing the multimeasure rests.

Some possible culprits:

1) The measures must be truly empty (= no entries).

2) Take a look at the Measure Attributes for those pesky measures.

Make sure that the option “Break a Multimeasure Rest” is not selected.

3) An expression can be set to “Break Multimeasure Rests”.

Make sure that there are no such expressions in the measures.
