Percussion parts

So I am having an issue with percussion parts, and their names at the beginning of staves. At the beginning of the piece, I would like percussion one to be on a mallet instrument. However, that changes the percussion 2 part to be percussion 1. Also, if I change instruments in the middle of the piece, the name of percussion 1 at the beginning of the staff will become glockenspiel instead of percussion 1. What should I do? I am using a Windows PC with Finale v25. Thanks!

The way that US publishers handle this is very simple. Label it Percussion1, 2, etc.... On the first score page, under the Percussion 1 name, list all of the instruments which will be played on the staff. Then with a text expression label each new instrument as it comes in. That's it. The only time we list the specific instrument as a staff name is when that's the only instrument being played.

On subsequent pages only list Perc.1, etc... (not individual instruments)

Have you tried using the Name column of the Score Manager to set the name for each staff?
Have you investigated defining staff styles to change staff names later in the score (if desired)?
The text used for instrument name changes that Jeffrey mentions can be accomplished using custom created Expressions attached to positions in your score.
