I am running Finale 25.5 on a Windows 10 machine - Lenovo Laptop

I am writing a Bassoon part that changes back between Tenor and Bass clefs.   I want to change clefs for the next measure, so highlight the clef tool, select the next measure, and double click - I get the dialog box as desired.   I select the clef needed, and select OK.   The clef is inserted, in the end of the previous measure, but the clef is superimposed on top of the remaining rests in the measure, making the measure difficult to read.  I have checked the Online User Guide, and it refers to some features in the dialog box that are not present on the one I see.

My questions -

1.  Did this change with the new version of Finale, and am I seeing the new dialog box in the User manual?

2.   Assuming the answer to the above is Yes, is there a way to insert the clef so that it doesn't overlay something?   BTW, I selected the "after the barline" box, and the clef is now placed in the next measure, but overwrites rests/notes in that measure.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Utilities > Lock Systems (CTRL+L)  locks the current measures into a system.

Choosing a measure and moving it to a new system locks both the original and destination systems.

While this capability is great for customizing the spacing of each system, if a system is locked, it will not move measures into a new system no matter how many notes you add, which would eventually cause spacing problems if not remedied.

That's why I asked about it.

Have you by any chance Locked the number of measures in the system in such a way that there is little or no room to add the clef? In my experience this is not a typical experience in v 25 or v26.

Failing that, have you respaced the measures (CTRL+4) since adding the clef?

Thanks for the quick response.  I tried the Ctrl+4, and it did the trick - added the space needed.  the work happens to be in 12/8 time, so there are lots of quarter and eigth note rests - I now can see them all.

I am not clear on how to lock the number of measures.   When the file was created, I specified the number of measures needed (22 in this case), but I was assuming that if needed, I could ass measures via the standard Edit-> Add measures routine.

Thanks again -
