Howdy from NE TX,

I'm run Finale 2014 and sometimes 2014.5 on a computer that operates Windows 7 Professional with 20 GB of RAM.  I have an external DAC I can run via USB to the computer, or an internal Lynx soundcard.  I have recently installed additional RAM in the computer (bringing it to 20 GB.  I intend to bring the computer up to 32 GB).

Situation: I play a large orchestral-choral score.  Everything sounds fine, the scroll bar works perfectly, all looks good.  I press the STOP button at any particular point on the score so I can revise/replace/rewrite/expand a section of the score.

Problem: the music, the audio, hangs at the STOP point and will sound indefinitely until and unless I shut down the program. I can play the score from beginning to end without issue.  But when I press the STOP button at any point while the score is playing, while the score does not play any new notes (future notes) and the scroll bar stops, the notes at that particular section/point in the score sound indefinitely.

I have deactivated and reinstalled each audio device in my computer.  The problem is not with the devices.  (All other programs in my computer which use the DAC/soundcard run perfectly, including JRivers.)  I do not believe the problem is with the new RAM, although I note the audio hang problem began roughly two weeks after I installed the additional RAM.  I believe the problem is solely within Finale.

I prefer to run Finale 2014 over any other version, including Finale 2014.5 and Finale 25.  (Finale 25 does not function on my computer and will not play.)  I have previously been content with Finale 2014 and believe it is the best version extant, at least for me.

(Sidenote: it is my view that Finale tech support should provide support to all users of any Finale versions that are not more than ten years old.  I have mentioned this to Finale.)

Thank you to all who read this and particularly to anyone who has encountered the above-described problem and found a fix for it.

It happens sometimes to me, but I rarely use the play button, but start and stop play anywhere with Spacebar+click. Occasionally when I stop during some held notes it will get stuck. An easy fix (instead of exiting Finale) is normally via MIDI/Audio > All Notes Off.

Mr. M,

Thank you for the reply.  After hours of fiddling with Finale I have made the audio hang problem disappear, however, and is often the case with Finale over the years, much of the time I'm unsure of exactly how I made the problem go away, despite being reasonably intelligent and having used Finale (in various versions) for twenty years.  I can say that I immediately tried the MIDI/AUDIO > All Notes Off remedy when I first encountered the problem, and to my surprise the audio hang problem did not go away.  I did find some audio-related discussions/suggestions in some old Finale forum conversations and related, and I tried every one of those.  Somewhere along the way one of the remedies worked.

Thanks again.
