I'm trying to register for finaletips.nu.

I see places to enter email address and password. But, I don't see where new users would register.

I've tried my makemusic email, and it didn't take it, so it's not that

Mac 10.13.6 Finale 26

Thank you

That's only necessary if you want to add material to the site. Do you have something to add? If you just want to download a plug-in, no registration is needed.

Yes, I do want to add something. How do I do it, please ?

I've been requesting a feature from Finale for years, and they just won't add it.

So, I thought it might be an idea to ask some people that create plug-ins.

I use Finale file playback for background tracks for practice purposes, and even live performances.

A common jazz format is: A. The melody (or, the “head in”), B. The solos, C. The melody (or, the “head out”).

At home, in practice, I set section B. (the solo section) repeat to “always jump,” because the exact number of repeats is not known.

Since there is no feature to tell Finale to move on past the repeat, when I'm ready to go on to section C., I have to stop playback, pass the repeat and start up again.

In performance, this doesn’t work very well.

I’ve asked for this feature several times over several years. I get it, Finale is not going to add this feature.

If there was a plug-in that would allow the user to continue on command, past the “always jump” repeat, that one simple feature would give me the luxury of not needing a sequencer, or to have to stop playback, and restart.

Can someone please recommend who might be able to help me with this?
Or, suggest a sequencer that will do what I want?
Thank you.

Thank you.

There is nothing that will let you change the playback sequence on the fly to account for the number of solos, unless you could figure out a way to use a foot pedal to trigger a loop. And I’m pretty sure you would have to go to a sequencer for that. The only thing I can suggest for practice is to write the score out fully, with no repeats. You can set it up with as many solo sections as you like. It’s just copy and paste.

You can try sending Jari an email, although I’ve never heard of anyone getting a response...

Or use Qlab with a pedal control to advance the vamp.

How does that help, if I don't know exactly how many choruses there's going to be?

Thanks for the tip, re: Jari is not likely to respond.

Can you recommend someone else who may take a look at this for me?

Thank you.

I think J Adrian's suggestion is the most likely.

I doubt a plug-in could handle what you are wanting since you cannot edit Finale while playback is active. Also, you are wanting to use Finale in a way it was not designed for. It's primarily a music notation program.

For practice purposes at home, there's nothing unreasonable about using a fixed number of measures for a solo section. The Jamey Aebersold recordings have help thousands of jazz students for decades, practicing improvisation at home using this exact concept.

For live performance, many musicians use backing tracks, using fixed length tracks. I don't believe even DAWs can do what you're asking.
