Hi......

Whenever I open my template for creating master rhythm section charts, I don't get any sound from Finale until I select MIDI/Audio>>>Reassign Playback Sounds. I have SmartMusic Soft Synth and Grand Piano selected as the device and sound, respectively, for each staff. It's easily fixable, but an annoyance every time I start a new chart. Let me know if there's something I can do to fix this.

Thanks.

Make sure instrument names are chosen/listed in the leftmost column of the Score Manager. That is the column Finale uses to Reassign Sounds. The second (Name) column is only cosmetic for controlling the name of the staff but not the sound.

Thanks for the reply. When I selected piano in the leftmost column, the piano did sound, but it did not sound after I closed the file and re-opened it.

Was the Piano still listed in the leftmost column when you re-opened the file?

What, if any, effect did this have on the remaining columns of the Score Manager?

Did you then run Reassign Sounds?

After I made the changes and re-opened the file…

1.Was the Piano still listed in the leftmost column when you re-opened the file? YES

2. What, if any, effect did this have on the remaining columns of the Score Manager? NO EFFECT AT ALL

3. Did you then run Reassign Sounds? YES

I still have to run "Reassign Sounds" every time I open the file to enable AU playback.

Yes

That is not typical behavior. (You've probably already figured that out.) If you have not already contacted MakeMusic Support directly using the "Submit a request" link at the top of the page, you should.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, MM no longer supports my version of Finale (v25.5), so I guess I'm on my own.

Thanks, David—my bad: I misinterpreted the message that pops up when you click "Submit a Request". Request now submitted.
