Several issues:
1) I searched through the Finale Manual for the "Audio Unit Viewer Dialog Box", and got back "Recent fixes to Finale".  Does the Finale manual contain a description of this dialog box and how it works???

2) The sliders in the Audio Units Viewer/Mixer move around mysteriously as Finale is playing the piece.
  a) What is controlling the sliders from -4dB to -9dB, which I do not want?
  b) How do I shut off this "feature" and control the volume with the dynamics without this interference??

DO you have a Windows (menu) > Mixer separate from the AU Viewer?

 

What you describe sounds like the behavior of the Aria Mixer, which changes depending on the dynamics and Human Playback  in your music.

The Finale Mixer is the way to set base levels of different instruments.

You can also add a Mix column to the Score Manager (via the Customize button) to set Volume and Pan by number; these settings are linked with the Finale Mixer.

Thanks for the feedback.  I turned off human playback and the problem went away, but the playback is stilted and unacceptable. 

I will research the other options you brought up.
