Are you trying to use the Aria Player or Finale's internal MIDI SoftSynth? You would make the choice under the MIDI/Audio menu.

I have the Aria Player installed. Currently, Play finale through VST is selected. I have tried switching to play through MIDI as suggested on another forum. Still no luck.

What does your MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup look like? Sometimes another program will change the driver setting. I have best luck with DirectSound, but others' milage may vary.

I would also check Banks & Effects. For some reason, I have lately found that on random occasions all the volume settings have been reset to zero. It's a puzzle why; never used to happen and does not happen often now--but it's worth a check.

I have an updated Finale 26.  All worked well  while I was putting notes in but I cannot get it to play back.  I did what you said above with no results.

Have you checked the Windows output chain to be sure that Finale and your OS are connected and using the same output resolution (that both are in 41.1K or 44Kh or the like--I forget the exact numbers, but they should be the same). I am guessing that other programs do produce sounds for you.

Did the DirectSound option stick? Mine kept shifting back until Finale Support gave me instructions to fix that. Which brings us to the question whether you have contacted Finale Support directly via the "Submit a request" link at the top of the page.

Hope you can get this solved soon. It would drive me crazy if this happened.

I came here initially to report that I was having the same problem, as that was the case. However, while experimenting on the Audio Setup dialog, I discovered the unexpected resolution. I unchecked the "Enabled" checkbox next to the "DirectSound" device and then checked it again. Apparently, this forced the system to reset something that had become corrupted. It's working again!

I too am a longtime Finale user (on Mac) who recently upgraded to v26. I have the same problem. No sound as I enter notes, no sound on playback. I even tried exporting to a sound file to play that as a stopgap, but the resulting sound file is entirely silent. I've checked that Finale and OS are both 41.K K. I tried to follow the suggestions of Verkouteren and Brennecke on MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup, but I get a box nothing like the one posted above:

My suggestion is applicable to Windows machines, but as you have seen, you'll need someone with Mac expertise to help you with your sound issue. Several of those check in here frequently, so no doubt you should get a response from one of them soon.

Problem was solved by removing Finale from my computer and reinstalling it.
