I request a way to swing 16th notes in playback.  Currently the only way to do this is to change the time signature to an 8 on the bottom, but this causes two issues: (1) The beaming is not correct (breaks 16th notes into groups of twos instead of 4s).  You can rebeam to a different time signature, but this is cumbersome to do repeatedly throughout the composing/arranging/editing process.  (2) If the time signature has 8 on the bottom, there are twice as many slashes in slash notation (so 8/8 has 8 slashes in a measure instead of 4).  You can edit the staff to allow it to have an independent time signature, but this is also cumbersome and creates other issues--especially if, for example, the entire jazz band needs slash notation during a solo section.

This used to be possible with the tempo tool, but now there does not appear to be a way to make the playback sound correct.

I agree, although it is possible to display a different time signature than what playback reads. When in the time sig dialog box, select More Options / Use Different Time Signature for Display.

But yes, would love if you could do this in a more obvious way.

Oh wow, seems you're right. I thought for sure it would also display with the correct sorta conventions within the displayed time sig. Lame! Good to know. Thanks for the info.

How has the Finale crew not solved this yet? If you enter swing 16ths, the playback should just act as such. Why all these workarounds and headaches?

Because they probably have no idea how to do it, at least not without creating more problems. Be happy there are workarounds!

I have no trouble with swing 16ths, but I'm probably working with less complex music than most of you.

Just adding another voice to this thread to say "Yes!  This is still a big deal!"  :)

Would like an easy way to do this as well.  How about having two FUNK human playback styles - straight 16 and swing 16?
