Teaching music theory on line, I am now giving and receiving lots of assignments with Finale. It would be fantastic to incorporate a highlighter and comments feature (in the Text Tool maybe-which is in woeful need of updating as it stands!).

Currently using FInale 26 for Mac, OS 10.14.6

I downloaded JW-Lua, and now have no idea what to do with the file--clearly it doesn't just go into the Plugins folder. It seems like one has to learn a scripting language. (Unfortunately my very small French vocabulary doesn't help me with the Finalesons web site.) There isn't much help that I can find on Jari Williamson's web site. Suggestions?

JW Lua IS a plug-in, and has to be placed in the Plug-ins folder. I would recommend to create a new sub-folder (for instance "JW Lua & scripts"), in which JW Lua will reside, but also the various scripts that you will find for the plug-in. Always add the script files to that sub-folder.

No need to learn a scripting code as a simple user, just install the existing scripts.

Once the JW Lua plug-in has been installed (and Finale restarted), it appears in the Plug-ins menu. Launch it, go to Manager, Select the Menu group and click New to locate and add the scripts that are present in the Plug-is sub-folder to activate them. They will be added to the Plug-ins menu. (If needed, go to Explorer and Refresh  All). You will probably have to relaunch Finale.

To download the "annotations" script, you probably will have to register on the "Finalisons" forum https://finale-logiciel-aide-gravure-musicale.eu , then go to this page http://finale-logiciel-aide-gravure-musicale.eu/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6702#p33862  (Download is at the bottom). The interface is in English and there are many more scripts in that forum and elsewhere. https://finale-logiciel-aide-gravure-musicale.eu/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=55#indexlua

Some interfaces have been translated to English, but in the list (link above), a description of each script is available in English and usually, the scripts, even those in French, are self-explanatory.

I hope this will get you started.

Thank you for these detailed instructions. My confusion was: I had downloaded a Lua script, and not the JW Lua plugin itself. It took at little looking through Jari's web site, but now I have found and installed the plugin. Thanks again!
