Using Finale 26.2 on Macbook Pro with Catalina.

I feel the overall layout should be updated in the Mac versions of Finale to include docked palettes, at the very least similar to the Windows platform design. The problem I run into with floating palettes, is that even if I arrange them and save the Preferences, the top line of each box takes up way too much space, and then the document workspace has to be carefully moved in order to get out of the palettes' ways. It's rather cumbersome, and I feel it's a request that would be very welcome by many Mac Finale users.

While the Windows design would be an improvement, one thought that would be interesting is to consider a layout not unlike the Microsoft Office suite, in that different toolbars become available at the top of the document window depending on which general Menu bar is selected. A pretty fresh update would be very welcome!!! Thanks for the time.

As I understand it, the problem is with the Mac, not with Finale. At least, that's what we’ve been told for years.

Yes, it is basically an issue with MacOS. That said, I wish the pallet had way more customizability:

  • Some way to at least have it always in the top left or on different/same monitors as a preference
  • A way to remove rarely or never-used tools (I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally clicked Simple Entry and had to undo something). The current workaround of moving some tools to one end and reducing the length of the Tools pallet is not always reliable.
