I have a chart where the chord symbols are squashed - like:

What can I do about this? I am using PrintMusic Version 2014a.v855 on Windows 7 Professional.

Thanks in anticipation.

Is that in all documents, or just this one? Do you have too many measures on a line, or chords too close together (although it doesn't look like that, here.)

Can you post a screenshot showing more of the score with the problem?

Usually chords symbols together collide rather than compress. It appears (offhand) as a font-compatibility problem. Are chords and suffixes in appropriate (or appropriately sized) fonts. In some suffixes, the editing screen positions characters separately from character position; changing the font size would not necessarily change the spacing.

I think somewhere along the line, someone (or something, if a font was missing) replaced or increased the size of the chord suffix font without making allowances for spacing.

Many thanks for your responses.

I don't think I have squashed the chords too close:

I may have changed the font size and then added in additional chords, which may have altered the spacing of any existing chords.

Anyway, I'm not sure whether the version of Finale I have has the "Chord Suffix Editor" as shown. I don't think it does.

Perhaps the only way to cure this is to remove all chords and re-enter them. What do you think?

I do appreciate people taking the time to answer.

PrintMusic doesn’t have the editor. You may need to remove and replace the chords at the original size.

You're quite right. I don't have "Finale" as such, I have "PrintMusic".

Yes, It seems to me my only option is to remove the symbols and re-renter them.

I do very much appreciate you taking the time to consider my problem.

Cheers

David

I'm having the same problem, and I'm using Finale 26.

Notice how the FMaj9, FMaj7, and G7sus chords look. Also notice how the slash chords like C/E are off-center over the chord grid.

It looks like the chords and fretboards are too large for the staves. Did you enlarge them?

Jeff,

Go back to the third post in this thread. You need to fix the spacing for the larger font characters in the Chord Suffix Editor.

(And good luck. You'd have to change each suffix manually and do a lot of math to figure out the spacing.)

Mike Rosen, Yes I did enlarge the fretboards. This is for a publisher and he wants the fret diagrams to be big.

J Adrian Verkouteren, I'll look into that. But I didn't have this problem when I used to do this kind of project on a PC. I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue or if it's a finale 26 issue.

Oversizing the chords has been an issue as long as I can remember. I don’t think there is an easy way, only what was described above. Sorry.

So, do the above comments apply to PrintMusic as well? D

Even more so, because PM doesn't have the Suffix Editor, if I remember correctly.
