Operating System: Catalina

Finale 26

I have been working on a new project, and have consulted with expert Robert Puff. The following seconds his request, as I have spent way too many hours hassling on getting Finale graphics transformed and imported into Adobe Illustrator. PLEASE respond to this feature request to include within Finale Preferences a section for Graphics Export defaults to support exporting graphics. And of course I can't do what I want in Finale because the graphics inside the program are inadequate.

1) User Preference for the preferred Default graphics export file format, including an option for transparent .png

2) A popup to set the default DPI resolution for Bitmapped graphics formats such as PNG and TIFF, which includes "other" DPI as is possible in the Export Pages or Export Selection dialogs.

Please make Finale's Default DPI for bitmapped graphics 300dpi. The current 72dpi default is a holdover from early internet days! Web designers no longer use low res 72 dpi images, and of course it is unsuitable for print media.

(Currently, more common www dpi resolution is 144 dpi (Mac) or 96 dpi (Windows)- if you are being inclusive of web images, you might want to consider changing the 150dpi to 144dpi and adding a 96 dpi to the popup list, although users can specify their own.)
In summary, there are currently more steps than there should be to export a graphic from Finale, and a section in Preferences for graphics export will reduce the number of steps currently required for Graphics export.

Also, PLEASE make expressions alphabetically organized within categories. This would save huge time.

There are MANY users who want to stay with Finale for a lot of their work, such as myself, but urgently need a better way to export graphics for other programs or will have to consider changing.

Thank you for your attention to this problem..

Hi Judith,

I certainly agree with you that some of Finale's graphics support features need an overhaul. Personally, I work a lot with vector graphics in scores, both import and export, and have found that Finale's current support for the e.g. EPS format is very weak. Some EPS files doesn't include a TIFF preview and are therefore not shown at all. Files that do include the TIFF preview are shown and (nowadays) also exported only in "preview mode", thus not utilizing the vector data at all. I hope they will develop a fix for this soon.

I'd very much also like to see a simple function for color management that would help when sending files for publishing or doing additional work in e.g. design applications like Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer. Today, a PDF file created with Finale's "print" function and a corresponding PDF file created with Finale's "graphics export" function doesn't contain the same color value for the color black for example. When sending files for print to a publisher, they often have specifications for color management that I'm not able to meet with Finale alone, as an application.

Thank's for your post! :)

Kind regards,

Daniel Lundell
